Burgee is a report that compiles quantitative data related to socioeconomic dynamics around Oceans, Seas and Rivers. This report is part of Skipper & Wool’s, Blue Info project.

In this year 2021 that marks the start of the United Nations Decade of Oceans Science for Sustainable Development, Skipper and Wool has made a SDG 14 Voluntary Commitment (Ocean Action #38669); through its Blue Info project, it will produce an annual Blue Economy Global Report entitled ”Burgee” each year of the Ocean Decade.

The name “Burgee”, was chosen for many reasons. As a maritime signalling flag, Burgee will flag important trends that we all should be aware. As a membership flag, Burgee will call to the attention the fact that Oceans, Seas and Rivers belong to our common heritage and that, together, we should cooperate to protect and add value to that heritage, ensuringthat we pass it to future generations better that we have received it. As a colorful flag, it reminds us of the beauty of our marine ecosystems and the diversity of how human beings relate to all bodies of water.

Burgee Kick-off happened during the Blue Info Summit on 22 June 2021. 

Burgee presents exploratory statistics about the impact of the pandemic on the main Economy of the Sea sectors. Oceans, Seas and Rivers all belong to the water cycle; this understanding is critical for the way we view marine ecosystems and from the point of view of humankind’s interaction with the all bodies of water.
